Holly’s Junk Food Review Series: Sweet Apple Donut & Coffee

May 11, 2018 By Holly

Happy Happy Friday y’all!!! So y’all have to know by now, doughnuts are my absolute complete and total favorite junk food ever, sooo I’m always looking for new, local doughnut places to try out.  I kept hearing about this very unassuming place called Sweet Apple Donut & Coffee and how ridiculously good their doughnuts were.  To be honest, I guess you could say this place is in Atlanta, but it’s soo not, it’s about 30 miles north of Atlanta, but I figured, what the heck, even a not great doughnut is probably worth the trek-spoiler alert, these are very worth the trek.

Here are a couple of nice overviews of the whole ding dang box of doughnuts I got, obviously their label here…

mmm…

more mmm…

and here is a close up of their peanut butter banana donut sandwich with a chocolate glaze, that’s not the official name of it, but y’all get the idea…

and a close up of their peanut butter cup donut…

First off, the lovely, lovely people who own and operate Sweet Apple Donut, could not have been any nicer, seriously.  When the sweet woman found out it was my first time there she gave me 2 free food items, one donut (their top selling tofu donut-it wasn’t terrible but not for me) & this incredible pig in a donut blanket thing “for the road.”  I mean, how sweet was that?  Anyways, so the peanut butter banana sandwich donut tasted like my childhood, because PB & banana sandwiches were life as a kid.  There was no way I could finish that donut because it was massive, but crazy decadent and delicious, with neither the PB nor the banana overpowering the other, then the perfect hit of chocolate glaze on top, mmm.  The peanut butter cup donut, is a yeast donut and had the perfect whipped peanut butter frosting on the top and a little in the middle of the donut with a chopped peanut butter cup.  This donut y’all, sheez, soooo rich and wonderful, because they still put a wonderful glaze all over the entire donut.  All of their yeast donuts knocked it out of the park, their cake donuts, which I had 2 of (blueberry & and old fashioned sour cream) were just OK, I felt they may have been just slightly over cooked, but that may have just been that day. I had high hopes for their bacon and cheddar cheese topped donut, but it was just meh, I thought it would be an awesome sweet & salty thing, and it was just kinda chewy.  Their strawberry bar with the whipped cream was phenomenal, with the perfect amount of strawberries and cream, and the bar had just the slightest crunchy bite to the outside, but soft in the middle, sooo good.  Their apple fritter was also pretty good, but I kind of didn’t like the apple pie filling just sitting on top, I much prefer the apples mixed throughout the fritter, not bad, just not spectacular.  They had a Dulce de Leche donut with white chocolate shavings on top as well, and to be completely honest, I was so full by the time I got to it, I took one bite and I don’t even remember what I thought haha.  Overall, Sweet Apple Donut & Coffee make fantastic donuts, especially their yeast ones, and the customer service is what sets this one apart from other places.  If you are ever in the Alpharetta area, make sure you swing by and grab one.

Thank you all for stopping by & Happy Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there, especially to my mom!  😀

Holly’s Junk Food Review Series: Strawberry Flavored Treats

May 3, 2018 By Holly

Happy Happy Thursday y’all!!! Today’s junk food review(s) is sooo random you guys.  Basically, I love strawberry flavored treats, of any variation, and today’s reviews are happening solely because I saw them at the store and I wanted to try them, so there you go.

First we have the strawberry milkshake flavored Pop-Tarts, which I have seen for a while on social media with everyone touting how good they are, so obviously I had to give them a try…

First off, I want to say that the frosted strawberry Pop-Tart has always been my OG, so I was very optimistic about these.  The first one that I ate, I toasted, which to be honest, after eating one straight out of it’s little shiny aluminum bag, I realized the toasting kind of took away from the flavor.  So I definitely suggest eating this flavor un-toasted.  Pop-Tart (or whoever the parent company is) was able to capture the strawberry milkshake flavor really well, these are good, pretty darn sweet obviously but good.  I think I still prefer the regular strawberry frosted and S’mores flavors, but these are not bad at all.  I give these a 7 out of 10.

Next we have these strawberry shortcake rolls, which I got a Kroger, and that is the only place I’ve seen these FYI in case you go to look.

So these Little Debbie strawberry shortcake rolls are pretty much what you would expect from Little Debbie. Moist, lots of strawberry flavor, and that delicious cream filling really blends well with the tart strawberry filling. These are very good, but as I said, these are very typical of Little Debbie, yummy, not mind blowing, just very very edible haha these little cakes get a solid 8 out of 10. Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope y’all have a wonderful day!!!

Holly’s Junk Food Review Series: Oreo Thins Fudge Dipped

April 25, 2018 By Holly

Happy Happy Wednesday y’all!!! Today’s junk food review is seriously so random… It’s not necessarily a brand new food item, it’s nothing crazy outlandish or even seasonal, but what they are is awesome and I thought, a must share.

Seriously, it was crazy random I even ended up trying these mini Oreo thins.  Having reviewed the larger sized Oreo thins and thinking overall that they were just okay, I wasn’t going to go out of my way to try these, fortunately they were handing them out on the last flight we took and since I was headed on vacation, I said why the heck not?

do not be fooled by their size…

Honestly, I’m not sure how they did it, these itty bitty cookies covered in fudge are just delicious!  For years I have loved the white chocolate covered Oreos, which luckily (for my diet) only come out around Christmas time.  Well, it’s like they shrunk those delicious Oreos down, made them a tad bit more rich with the darker chocolate, and voila you’ve got these super fantastic little bites of awesome.  Eating a few of these is basically not an option, they’re just so addictive!  I recommend you head to your local grocery store, find the cookie aisle and buy a bag of these guys (I think they may come in mint too?).  I do not recommend buying more than 1 bag a time though because they all may magically disappear in less than a day haha.  These deceiving little snacks get a solid 9.5 out of 10.  Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful day!!!

Holly’s Junk Food Review Series: High Road Peanut Butter Chocolate Ice Cream

April 20, 2018 By Holly

Happy Happy Friday y’all and welcome to another junk food review!!!

Ok, so yes, I have reviewed several of High Road’s ice creams before and there is darn good reason too, they put out consistently awesome product.  They have recently come out with several new flavors and to say that I was excited to get my hands on them is an understatement.

Being team peanut butter over here, obviously the Peanut Butter Chocolate had to be first to be reviewed…

OMG, look at those swirls…

Alrighty y’all, so, the base flavor of this ice cream is peanut butter with a chocolate caramel swirl, mmmm.  Oh yeah, if you think that sounds amazing, it’s only because it is.  Y’all, the peanut butter ice cream is perfect, you can tell real peanut butter or peanuts were used to flavor this ice cream, subtle, but still with the perfect amount coming through, nothing fake about it.

As awesome as the ice cream base is, the caramel chocolate swirl is the pièce de résistance.  Not to be dramatic or anything, but that caramel chocolate swirl is magical, seriously.  They call High Road Craft Ice Cream luxury ice cream and you know what? it really is, it’s decadent and rich without feeling like they’re trying too hard, just really awesome, freshly made ingredients used in their products.  Per usual, they knocked it out of the park with this one and it gets a solid 10 out of 10, y’all go get you some!

Holly’s Junk Food Review Series: Momofuku Crack Pie

April 12, 2018 By Holly

Good Morning & Happy Thursday y’all!

Welcome to another junk food review… So, I’m sure a lot of y’all have heard of the Momofuku Milk Bar in New York.  They’re known for their really unique and fun dessert creations.  I have had their cookbook for years and to be honest, their stuff seems so complex and with soo many steps and ingredients, I said a big no thank you to actually making anything out of it.  So anyways, when I saw that their super famous Crack Pie was one of their creations available for delivery via Goldbely, I obviously jumped at the opportunity to order it.  Don’t worry this isn’t an endorsement for Goldbely, I paid for the very expensive pie and ridiculously expensive delivery with my very own money dollars haha.

Not exactly the most beautiful pie I’ve ever seen, but I’m optimistic…

I gosh, I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to like a pie so much, bbuuuttt, unfortunately, the first word that came to mind to describe this pie was, disappointing. Maybe, if it hadn’t cost so much, or all that I had heard was how incredible this pie was, it might be different..but seriously y’all this pie was a major disappointment. First off, the pie is really, really thin and I like thick pies, I cannot lie but my first thought on the flavor was that it tasted like a less rich and decadent Ooey Gooey Butter Cake (which I just realized I’ve never done a post on) but with a really crumbly crust.  Don’t get me wrong, the pie tasted good, but I could have saved myself time and money and just made some homemade butter cake, which calls for about 1/100 of the ingredients, more than 1/2 the time and is much, much richer.  So basically, save yourself the money and just make some butter cake at home, the crust is better, it makes more, and is eye rollingly good.  This pie gets a 5 out of 10 and a 2 out of 10 rating for the cost.

Holly’s Junk Food Review Series: Popcorn For The People

April 5, 2018 By Holly

Happy Happy Thursday everybody & welcome to another junk food review.  It’s terrible, but I cannot even begin to remember where I just happened across this popcorn company, Popcorn For the People, but when I read their mission statement and what they do, I immediately ordered some.  All of their products are handmade by adults with Autism or other developmental disabilities, as well as 100% of their profits go to Let’s Work For Good, which provide employment for adults with autism.  I happen to love specialty flavored popcorn so it’s definitely a win-win.

Also, every tin of popcorn you buy comes with a card containing the name of the person who personally handmade your popcorn, which I think is so nice 🙂

First, we have their cookies n cream flavor which I believe is also their number one selling flavor…

Y’all, this cookies and cream flavor is really awesome. The popcorn is soft and has tons of chocolate cookie flavor throughout, without being too much.  What really puts the flavor over the edge are the little tiny chocolate cookie pieces that are all in this popcorn. This popcorn for sure gets an 8.5 out of 10.

Next, we have one of my forever favorite flavors of popcorn, caramel…

Ok, so this is seriously the best caramel popcorn that I’ve ever had. Every single bite was extra covered in caramel and was super crispy, OMG, I’m drooling even thinking about it.  I’m really not kidding, if you love caramel popcorn, you need to order some of this, like right now, trust me it’s that good, this definitely gets a 9 out of 10.

Thanks again so much for stopping by and I really hope you all have a wonderful day!!!

Holly’s Junk Food Review Series: Peeps Oreos

March 28, 2018 By Holly

Happy Happy Thursday y’all!!!  Before we get started I want to wish a very Happy 10th Birthday to the sweetest, fluffiest sous chef ever, Lacy!  I cannot believe she’s 10! The years have flown and she brings soo much joy to myself and my family, Happy Birthday fluff monster! No worries,  she will definitely be getting her very own cupcake today 😀

Anyways, back to food y’all…I can’t begin to tell y’all how much I love Oreos.  The original Oreos are always fantastic, but I really really love the limited edition ones.  There have obviously been a few misses over the years with the limited edition flavors, but for the most part I’m usually a fan.

They had the Peep flavored Oreos last year, and I thought that they were fine, really sweet mind you, but ultimately I didn’t think that they tasted like Peeps.  They obviously changed the formula this year and most definitely for the better…

all that purple Peep goodness…

So I am aware that a lot of folks are not on board with the deliciousness that is Peeps, but even if you are not I still think you’ll like these cookies.  I personally loved these Oreos.  I don’t know how they did it, but they were able to get that perfect marshmallow taste in the Oreo cream, and to boot, they even added the sugar crunch in the cream that the outside of real Peeps have.  I’m telling y’all these Peeps Oreos are fantastic, I’m a big fan.  The only negative I might give them is that they are almost too sweet (for some folks anyway, not this chickadee), but other than that they’re way delicious.  I give these Peeps Oreos a 9 out of 10.  Thanks so much for stopping by and early Happy Easter!  Have a fantastic day!!!

Holly’s Junk Food Review Series: Lindt Lindor Truffles

March 15, 2018 By Holly

Happy Happy Thursday y’all!!! Several weeks ago, I had been on a huuuge chocolate kick, that’s literally all that I wanted, which is definitely different for me because it’s usually donuts haha.  I’ve always been a really big fan of Lindt Lindor Truffles, and there were a few flavors I had yet to try, so I actually went to their website and waaaay over ordered.  You know how they say you shouldn’t go to the grocery store hungry, well I would definitely say the same thing for online food shopping as well.  Anyways, so my enormous bag of truffles arrived and I couldn’t wait for my cheat day to taste test them for my junk food review…

First, we have the caramel and milk chocolate truffle…

the inside…

So, I will say that I was expecting to have caramel spill out once I bit into it, like every other caramel and chocolate item ever, but this more solid caramel filling was pretty good.  Of course, the milk chocolate was deliciously smooth and rich and the caramel was equally as smooth and rich, but honestly not enough of a caramel flavor.  This one gets a 6.5 out of 10.

Next we have the coconut and milk chocolate truffle…

the inside…

I know that coconut and chocolate is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, but it is definitely one of my personal favorite combinations.  Whoa buddy does this truffle pack a huge coconut punch to it too.  That smooth rich milk chocolate exterior with that almost buttery coconut filling knocked me right in the face.  This truffle is insanely good-especially if you love coconut-and so, so, rich…so rich in fact I could only eat 1, if that tells you anything haha.  This coconut truffle gets a solid 9 out of 10.

Last, we have the blueberries and cream truffle…

the inside…

First off, I loooved the fact that they used a white chocolate exterior for this wonderful blueberries and cream truffle, I think if they had attempted using a milk chocolate exterior it absolutely would not have worked.  The blueberry flavor doesn’t hit you in the face, but it’s such a wonderfully smooth and subtle flavor, and throw in the white chocolate exterior, this is seriously yum y’all.  I believe this is a limited edition flavor for Spring so I recommend giving this one a try.  This flavor gets a 9 out of 10.

Thank y’all so much for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful day & weekend!!!

Holly’s Junk Food Review Series : Hershey’s Gold

March 8, 2018 By Holly

Happy Happy Thursday y’all!  Wow, we’re this close to the weekend and I’m so thrilled.  We have planned an impromptu trip to Walt Disney World this weekend and I’m just plain giddy haha.  I’m also excited to share today’s junk food review, so let’s get to it!

I believe that this is the first brand new bar that Hershey’s has come out with in a while, and if that’s true then it was sooo worth the wait…

Look at all the peanuts & pretzels…

so yummy looking…

Alrighty, y’all, so as soon as I heard about this new bar coming out I positively knew that I had to have it.  As some of y’all might know, I’m sooo team sweet & salty and to hear that a caramelized creme bar with peanuts and pretzels in it was coming out?…omg forget it.  Fortunately, this bar lived up to every hope I had for it.  To me, this is eye rollingly, holy crud, wowza, get in my belly amazing.  The caramel base of this bar would be delicious on it’s own, but throw in finely chopped peanuts and pretzels to really balance out all of that sweet goodness, yes ma’am, this is the bee’s knees for sure.  This new Hershey’s Gold Bar gets a for sure 10 out of 10 from me, seriously go get one of these today, especially if you’re team sweet and salty like am.

Holly’s Junk Food Review Series: Ample Hills Ice Cream Pt. 2

March 1, 2018 By Holly

Happy Happy Thursday y’all !!! Welcome to Part 2 of my Ample Hills Creamery review, you know, the one that was delivered straight to my door? 😀

So, Let’s get to it!

First, we have Nonna D’s Oatmeal Lace Ice Cream…

Looks yummy…

So basically they had me at ‘Brown Sugar Cinnamon Base’ because soo many of my favorite recipes include brown sugar and cinnamon, so there you go.  Per usual, I’m going to be very honest, this one was slightly disappointing.  Not because it was bad at all, but just because the last oatmeal-esque ice cream was the protein heavy, lower calorie Halo Top and it was absolutely delicious.  I was certain that this one with pieces of real oatmeal cookie and a brown sugar and cinnamon base would make this one a for sure 10 out of 10, but honestly the flavors didn’t smack me in the face like I was hoping they would.  Also, like a lot of mix-ins, the flavor of the cookies was, for the most part lost, and the texture like the gooey butter cake was a lot chewy.  Only because this one was disappointing, I’m giving this one a 6 out of 10, had I not had high hopes it would have gotten a 7.5 out of 10.

Next we have The Munchies…

you can see some of the mix-ins…

So as a lot of you know already, I’m definitely team sweet & salty, hence my utter excitement at this ice cream that has a pretzel infused base with a bunch of salty and sweet stuff thrown in. You guys, I really hate to do this because I genuinely love giving glowing reviews on here, but again, this one…disappointing.  The ice cream base didn’t taste nearly as sweet & salty as I had been hoping it would, and the mix-ins, didn’t exactly mix in.  When I would stick my spoon into the container, the pieces of crackers, potato chips etc.  would come out in this weird frozen chunk, not seamlessly blending in like they should.  If I hit an especially salty bit of stuff in the ice cream it was good, but overall this one was just meh, but then again maybe my expectations were just too high, or the ice cream being super frozen and shipped just didn’t do the ice cream texture any justice.  Overall, I’ll give this one a 6.5 out of 10, but I will absolutely recommend grabbing some of their ice cream flavors fresh from their shops if you’re near one.  As always, thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful day!!!
